SPELLING
English is said to have one of the most difficult spelling systems in the world. The written representation of English is not phonetically exact for two main reasons. First, the spelling of words has changed to a lesser extent than their sounds; for example, the k in knife and the gh in right were formerly. Second, certain spelling conventions acquired from foreign sources have been perpetuated; for example, during the 16th century the b was inserted in doubt (formerly spelled doute) on the authority of dubitare, the Latin source of the word. Outstanding examples of discrepancies between spelling and pronunciation are the six different pronunciations of ough, as in bough, cough, thorough, thought, through, and rough; the spellings are kept from a time when the gh represented a back fricative consonant that was pronounced in these words. Other obvious discrepancies are the 14 different spellings of the sh sound, for example, as in anxious, fission, fuchsia, and ocean.

American English
An important development of English outside Great Britain occurred with the colonization of North America. American English may be considered to include the English spoken in Canada, although the Canadian variety retains some features of British pronunciation, spelling, and vocabulary. The most distinguishing differences between American English and British English are in pronunciation and vocabulary. There are slighter differences in spelling, pitch, and stress as well. Written American English also has a tendency to be more rigid in matters of grammar and syntax, but at the same time appears to be more tolerant of the use of neologisms. Despite these differences, it is often difficult to determine—apart from context—whether serious literary works have been written in Great Britain or the U.S./Canada—or, for that matter, in Australia, New Zealand, or South Africa.

Jennifer Lopez
Lopez, Jennifer (1970- ), American actor, singer, and dancer, highly popular for her work in films as well as music. In 2001 she became the first woman to have the highest-grossing motion picture (The Wedding Planner) and album (J. Lo) in the United States in the same week.
Jennifer Lynn Lopez was born in the Bronx, New York, to parents of Puerto Rican descent. She began singing and dancing lessons at age five and set her sights on a career in show business at a young age. After high school she attended Baruch College in New York City for one semester before leaving to focus on dancing. In 1990 Lopez moved to Los Angeles, California, and landed a dancing role as one of the “Fly Girls” on the television comedy series In Living Color (1990-1994). She also spent time as a dancer for pop singer Janet Jackson.
Her first major film roles were in movies with predominantly Hispanic casts. In 1995 Lopez played the minor role of a young woman who falls in love with a Mexican immigrant in My Family (Mi Familia). In Selena (1997) she starred as Selena Quintanilla-Perez, a popular Latin singer who was murdered in 1995. Lopez’s performance earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination for best actress in a motion picture comedy or musical.
Lopez, also known as J. Lo, received critical acclaim for her role as a kidnapped federal marshal in Out of Sight (1998), directed by Steven Soderbergh. She then put her acting career on hold to make her debut music album. On the 6 (1999)—the title referring to the subway train between the Bronx and Manhattan—featured Latin pop rhythms and sold well.
Lopez starred in science-fiction thriller The Cell in 2000 and in two movies in 2001: She played a wedding coordinator who falls in love in The Wedding Planner and a police officer in Angel Eyes. The following year she released her third album, This Is Me…Then, and starred in the drama Enough and the comic romance Maid in Manhattan. Lopez has her own fashion and perfume lines and directs the production company Nuyorican Films.

ASTRONOMY
Astronomy, study of the universe and the celestial bodies, gas, and dust within it. Astronomy includes observations and theories about the solar system, the stars, the galaxies, and the general structure of space. Astronomy also includes cosmology, the study of the universe and its past and future. People who study astronomy are called astronomers, and they use a wide variety of methods to perform their research. These methods usually involve ideas of physics, so most astronomers are also astrophysicists, and the terms astronomer and astrophysicist are basically identical. Some areas of astronomy also use techniques of chemistry, geology, and biology.
Astronomy is the oldest science, dating back thousands of years to when primitive people noticed objects in the sky overhead and watched the way the objects moved. In ancient Egypt, the first appearance of certain stars each year marked the onset of the seasonal flood, an important event for agriculture. In 17th-century England, astronomy provided methods of keeping track of time that were especially useful for accurate navigation. Astronomy has a long tradition of practical results, such as our current understanding of the stars, day and night, the seasons, and the phases of the Moon. Much of today's research in astronomy does not address immediate practical problems. Instead, it involves basic research to satisfy our curiosity about the universe and the objects in it. One day such knowledge may well be of practical use to humans. See also History of Astronomy.

BADMINTON
Badminton, game for two or four players using lightweight rackets and a shuttlecock, a cork ball fitted with stabilizing feathers. Players hit the shuttlecock back and forth over a net, trying to keep it from hitting the ground. Some people play badminton outdoors on a level grassy area or beach. However, tournament-level badminton is played indoors on a specially marked court. Badminton’s governing body, the International Badminton Federation (IBF), has about 140 member nations. The IBF estimates that about 200 million people play the game worldwide and that more than 1,000 players participate in international competition. Badminton’s growth accelerated after the game’s debut as a medal sport during the 1992 Summer Olympic Games. China, Denmark, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, and South Korea are just a few of the countries where badminton is popular.

THE HISTORY OF ROCK MUSIC
Rock music in one form or another is now the most popular type of music all over the word. But where did it come from?
BLACK MUSICK
Rock began in the USA in the early 1950s.at that time rhythm and blues music was very popular with black Americans. 'R & 'B was a mixture of black religious music ('gospel') and jazz. It had strong rhythms that you could dance to and simple, fast lyrics.
ROCK 'N' ROLL
Noticing the success of R & b music, white musicians started to copy the same style. By the mid 1950s, this new white R & B music, called rock 'n 'roll, had become very popular.
Singers like Elvis Presley and Bill Haley attracted millions of teenage fans. Their music was fast and loud. Many older people thought that rock 'n' roll was very dangerous.
By the early 1960s, even rock 'n' roll had become old fashioned. Many of the songs had begun to sound the same. It was at that time that a new group from England became popular: The Beatles.
THE BEATLES
The Beatles first started by singing American style songs. but they soon developed their own style, with more complicated different instruments, such as the Indian sitar: Groups like The Beatles had a very important influence on the style of popular music.
By the early 1970s, rock 'n' roll had developed into a new form of music Electronics had replaced the amplified guitars and drums of rock 'n' roll. 'Rock' had arrived.
ROCK TODAY
Rock music has continued to change and developed. It has combined with music from different parts of the world. Today, there are hundreds of different types of rock music, and almost every country has its own form of rock. There is heavy metal which is extremely loud with hard rhythms, 'reggae', from Jamaica, that combines rock with jazz and Latin rhythms, 'rap' that developed on the streets of New York, 'disco' a type of soft rock music for dancing, 'Afro-rock' that combines rock with African rhythms, 'Mex-rock', which combinesrock with traditional Mexican melodies … and many ,many more.

I love you more than love
It is impossible to capture in words
The feelings I have for you
They are the strongest feelings that
I have ever had about anything
Yet when I try to tell you them
Or try write them to you
The words do not even being to touch
The depths of my feelings
And though I cannot explain the essence of
These phenomenal feelings
I can tell you what I fell like
When I am with you
When I am with you it as if
I were a bird
Flying freely in the clear blue sky
When I am with you it is as if
I were a flower
Opening up my petals of life
When I am with you it is as if
I were the waves of the ocean
Crashing strongly against the shore
When I am with you it is as if
I were the rainbow after the storm
Proudly showing my colors
When I am with you it is as if
Everything that is beautiful
Surrounds us
This just a very small part of how wonderful
I feel when I am with you
Maybe the word ''love'' was invented to explain
The deep, all-encompassing feelings
That I have for you
But somehow it is not strong enough
But since it is the best word that there is
Let me tell you a thousand times that
I love you more than ''love''

STORY
GLASSES AND READING
One day a villager, hearing that glasses are useful for reading, went to a shop to buy glasses.
The shopkeeper showed him a pair of glasses. He asked for another pair. In this way, he continued trying on many pairs of glasses, but every time he said: ''These are not good, give me another pair''.
At last the shopkeeper, who was getting angry, said: ''sir can you read at all?''. The villager answered: ''If I could read, why would I want glasses?''
